Our discussion of this text has ended.
Those interested in the Bible's "Clobber Passages," most often used to justify the exclusion of LGBTQ+ community from church life, is encouraged to read this biographical text by Colby Martin.
Unclobbered follows Martin's exploration of the Biblical intent behind these passages.
Thank you to those of us who cleaned our closets to contribute canned goods, blankets, coats and other items for those in need. Countless volunteers from many organizations helped the homeless and needy in the Baltimore area. Our church Outreach Coordinator Jerome continues to find opportunities for participation in events such as this to support the homeless in Baltimore City. Email MVP-UMC's Outreach Coordinator Jerome if you'd like to learn more about how you can help out during our next Homeless Outreach event.
Beginning Sunday, March 22, 2020, all services and meetings have been changed to teleconference via ZOOM rather than meeting at our physical location. Please check here for updates as responses to the COVID-19/Coronavirus Pandemic change.
Services will be held beginning 10:35 am on Sundays.
The teleconference number is: 605-468-8003.
Access code is: 395-871#
These are extraordinary times; working together and supporting one another is what we do as a faith community. Pastor Rod and other members of our church community are at the ready to listen and talk through any worries or concerns you may have, especially if you find yourself or a loved one feeling ill.
Be well, be mindful of others, take care of yourself as well as your neighbors, and know that God is with you
Once each month, we invite anyone to join us for Casual Conversation about Serious Subjects. In the past, we have met at a restaurant in the Mt. Vernon area of Baltimore to discuss burning questions of the day. Each question is proposed by that month's facilitator (we never disclose the topic in advance). Currently, we meet via ZOOM.
Join us for a rousing conversation. Our rules:
1. this is a safe environment to share, therefore all ideas are appreciated, even if not agreed-upon.
2. be respectful of others' opinions.
3. have fun!
Typically, we meet the last Wednesday of each month at 7 PM. Please keep checking our calendar for dates and locations.
Administrative Council meetings are scheduled for the second Sunday of each month following the service. This schedule is subject to change. All church members are welcome to attend council meetings.
Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.
